Description

Led by trainers from Rare’s Center for Behavior & the Environment, this interactive workshop will explore:  

  • The steps of Behavior-Centered Design, including framing challenges, building empathy, connecting data to insights, ideation and prototyping, and measuring success. 

  • Levers of behavior change, such as emotional appeals, social influences, and choice architecture. 

  • Applying the tools of Behavior-Centered Design to a specific case study  

  • Practicing and applying behavioral insights to your own work. 


Important note on our virtual offering:

To maximize your experience, we recommend reserving the 3 days of the workshop as if attending in person. All six sessions are sequential and necessary to complete the course. The training includes pre-work assignments and short assignments after each session to apply the material in real time. 

The total estimated time for completion is 12 hours, which includes 1-3 hours of e-learning modules and 9 hours of instructor-led live sessions (3 hours each day for three days). We also offer 1:1 coaching sessions after the training for assistance with your specific organizational challenges from our behavioral scientists. 


Session Dates and Times: 

The next session runs from October 8 to October 10, featuring two daily sessions. Participants can choose from these time zone options: 

Option 1: Americas/Europe/Africa 

  • 10:00 AM and 2:00 PM UTC-4 (New York) daily

  • 4:00 PM and 8:00 PM UTC+2 (Berlin) daily

Option 2: Asia/Pacific 

  • 9:00 AM and 1:00 PM UTC+8 (Beijing) daily

For our signature Behavior Centered Design for the Environment training, we offer all participants the freedom to opt into a course fee tier they feel is appropriate based on their personal and professional capacity. To make this program as accessible as possible for practitioners who lack the means to attend, we offer three tiers of course fees:

The discounted fee and fee waiver tiers are aimed to ease the costs for those from small non-profit organizations, those from the Global South, and those who have limited access to professional development funds. Requests for fee waivers are determined on an individual basis. We take into account financial need, the potential for impact, and access to opportunity, as well as overall cohort diversity.

You should apply to the course fee tier you can afford without burdening yourself or your organization. In order to keep our training offerings sustainable, we are able to offer more invitations to applicants who apply under the full tuition tier. Objectives

After completing the Behavior-Centered Design for the Environment training, participants
will be able to:

  • Know how to identify target behaviors and audiences of an environmental challenge
  • Explain key concepts of behavior-centered design and describe the six behavioral
    levers and underlying principles
  • Apply behavioral insights and principles to inform designing and testing solutions to
    current and future conservation problems
  • Use research data to create a prototype of a solution that can engage different
    communities
  • Contact a community of other like-minded practitioners interested in behavior change programs
  • Know next steps for testing, launching, and assessing a behavioral solution
  • Explain how diversity, equity, and inclusion are important for each step of the behavior-centered design approach
